...the Inn was built in 1865, Twin Gables Inn has a rich history, having undergone numerous changes, but always being a part of the progression of the Saugatuck community. It started as a brewery icehouse, became a tannery, a barrel stave mill, a boat building yard, a planing mill, and since the turn-of-the-century, a hotel and restaurant. It is the only building which was once a mill, still left standing from the busy lumbering era in the Saugatuck area. The Inn had been closed for over 20 years, when the previous Innkeepers started the restoration process to return it to its former glory and charm.
Guests have called Twin Gables Inn "..... the Grand Hotel of Saugatuck ....."; in fact, Twin Gables Inn was designed by the same architect who designed the magnificent Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Want more information? Some brochures sent? E-mail us with your request.
